Here is my detailed guide to signing-up to a giveaway event, as a contributor.
REGISTER A DOMAIN NAME
Are you really serious about a career in Internet Marketing? Yes? Then you’re going to need to get yourself a domain name, so that you can have your own web-site. I would suggest that a WordPress blog be the way forward with www(dot)yourname(dot)com as the domain name.
If you have any doubts about getting your own web-site or blog then I’m sorry, but a career in Internet Marketing is probably not for you.
I won’t be covering how to set up and build your WordPress blog in this post but I would advise you to use Namecheap to register your domain and Hostgator to host it.
Namecheap costs around $9.69 per domain, per year and is just about the cheapest there is. Plus you can easily find a discount voucher of $0.88 if you know where to look…
“88 cents? Big deal!”
Not a life-changing sum of money I know, but a 9% discount it is nonetheless.
Enter “Namecheap coupon” followed by the current month and year and Mother Google will find your discount code for you.
If you need assistance in setting up you blog then do as I did and follow Tommy McLaughlin’s Blog Set Up Tutorials
HOSTING YOUR DOMAIN
Hostgator are my recommendation – In the relatively short space of time that I have employed them, I can honestly say that their service is second to none. Their “Baby Croc” package allows you to have as many domains as you can shake a stick at for around $90 per year.
Hostgator are quite simply the industry leader when it comes to domain hosting and their customer service is second to none. I have used their live one-on-one chat facility on 3 occasions now and have been completely satisfied on each occasion.
Again, discount coupons of as much as 20% are available if you use the magic of Google. If you’re reading this in March 2010 then try the code “TOPHOST”
CHANGE DOMAIN NAME SERVERS
“You’re getting technical now Cliff!”
Namecheap have their own domain name servers (DNS) which need to be changed over to those supplied by Hostgator. Ignore this advice if you intend to use the same company for both registering and hosting your domain.
If you click on the link at the bottom of this article you will find the way to a great tutorial video about changing DNS.
AUTORESPONDER SERVICE
You’re getting close now to starting to build your very own list of subscribers. An autoresponder is a vital resource for you to manage the details of your list.
Look no further than AWeber who are the best at what they do. Again, their service isn’t free but it’s hard to imagine being a professional Internet Marketer without an effective autoresponder.
AWeber costs around $16 per month and the first month is only $1
GIVEAWAY EVENT PRODUCT
You now need to have a product, or products to offer as gifts in the giveaway event(s) so that you can start to build your list.
If you haven’t got your own product, there are plenty of free and low cost eBooks available to use on the internet. Look for products with MRR (Master Resale Rights) or PLR (Private Label Rights).
My advice would be to choose your product wisely, as the better the product, the more subscribers you will get and the more likely they will be to stay with you and become responsive.
