California Climate Registry Oversees Greenhouse Gases.

by Daniel Stouffer

The Climate Action Reserve is an umbrella organization which oversees the California Climate Action Registry, which is also known as the California Climate Registry. The Registry is now a program under the auspices of the Reserve, committed to helping solve climate change problems through enhanced reporting requirements.

The California Climate Registry had just over 20 members when it was originally formed, but this number increased to more than 300. Now, chief executives and officials of major corporations, government agencies, universities, counties and cities are actively involved in these environmental issues. All these organizations oversee, measure and report the greenhouse gas activities on a voluntary basis. Collectively, they are working towards a solution to our climate change problem.

The California Climate Registry members keenly participate in proactive measures to verify their greenhouse gas emissions. The state of California recognizes their foresight and offers appropriate consideration. When future state, federal or international GHG regulations are brought in, the members foresight will be recognized.

A group of forward thinking CEOs lobbied the state government in California on the subject of greenhouse gas emissions. Their foresight prompted a bill which was ultimately signed into law by Gov. Gray Davis on October 13, 2001. The California Climate Registry was formed.

As climate change goals beyond state borders, the California Climate Registry ceded its duties to the Climate Registry. The California organization will continue to report emissions as a program under the auspices of the Climate Action Reserve.

The California Climate Registry is an integral program under the umbrella of the Climate Action Reserve. The Reserve’s stated goal is to work to ensure environmental benefits, integrity and progressive movement in greenhouse gas emissions, reductions and policies.

The members of the California Action Registry will continue to be actively involved in the discovery and introduction of market based solutions for the problem of greenhouse gas emissions. They will also be involved in the construction of relevant regulations in this important fight.

Organizations that are involved in the production of greenhouse gases, recognize that emissions reporting is an increasingly important consideration. As regulation forces these companies to consider their reporting methods, many are turning to software driven applications and programs to help them gather and report the relevant data.
